Annie, Mary, Bettie, Janie--
How I love my dollies sweet!
Now I want you dressed up finely;
All the folks you'll have to meet,
Will see all my precious dollies;
You must all be very neat.
Here's a green dress, trimmed in yellow;
Here's a blue one, red one, and white,
Trimmed in ribbons all so lovely,
Belts and buttons all so bright.
Now I know I'll be proud of you,
'Cause not one will look a fright.
Goodnight, Dollies, till to-morrow;
Nell is sleepy now, you know,
Let me sing and pat her softly
Like my mamma, just sing low.
Shut your eyes, goodnight, my pretties.--
You're asleep! I'll tiptoe go.
(If I didn't say this before, pretty much all poems and songs here typed are by my great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Emma Gardner Hall. Just so you know.)
A SONG TO MY LOVE.
*----*
The mock bird sings his joyous lay
To the mate he woos in his own glad way;
The plaintive note of the cooing dove
Sings of love, of love, sweetest love.
The moon mounts high, in the ether sky,
The stars watch lovingly from on high:
The breezes waft my song to thee;
O list, my love, to me.
--Mrs. Emma G. Hall.
NOTE: This beautiful little stanza by Mrs. Hall was by her set to a lovely little air. She evidently meant to write other stanzas. She was in the habit of putting to paper a bit of verse and music just as it came in mind and she had the time, for she was ever busy. She, perhaps, meant at another time to write a refrain or chorus. --J. H. H. Hall.

(Maybe I should finish this song for her. It's a good thought. I'll think on't. --ERHN)
